My two adult sons have had nothing to do with their father (My ex-husband) for several years now. I have heard however, that he wishes them to be the executors to his will. They are afraid that if this happens they may be responsible for his funeral expenses and any debts he may have. Is this correct?
No, the estate is responsible for his funeral expenses or any debts that he may have at the time of death.
If he does not have any money to pay these, then the creditors have to go without and the Executors can apply for funeral expenses from the state on his behalf.

I am not religious and would therefore prefer not to have a religious ceremony and would not choose to be buried in a church graveyard. I do not want to be cremated either. What options do I have?
I would suggest that you seek guidance from the British Humanist Association, 47 Theobald's Road, London, WC1 8SP Telephone 0171 430 0908, Web site: www.humanism.org.uk. Humanists care about moral issues but from a non-religious standpoint. Their officiants provide a non religious ceremony.
With regard to burial there are 'green sites' available where bodies can be buried in a simple shroud and where trees are planted instead of headstones. Your local Registrar should know of these sites. Burial in private ground is permitted although the local environmental health department should be advised together with the Environment Agency. Clear instructions should be left with your executors following your consultations.
